US Election '12
There is so much to say
There is so much to say, and it's time for new action. New thoughts and comments will be in the Amerindia blog, and we'll leave a few short thoughts on this page. We are also going to create FaceBook and Twitter accounts connected to our Amerindia web site.
Obama Elected
The United States elected Obama, to the suprise of many, and the hope of many more. However, US democracy is not what it used to be, or what we thought it was. It's becoming no longer a choice between candidates and ideas. Candidates (all but a very few) get money from corporate interests - directly or though ideological front organizations that support them. The people cast ballots for the candidates with the soundbites that suit them most. The elected officials go to Washington. They meet the lobbyists. And whatever Big Corporate America wants, Big Corporate America pays to get it.
Most of our representatives focus on getting elected, and fail to act in the best interest of the people. They might bring home pork for their constituency, but at the cost of the national welfare. Where we need wisdom, courage, and action for the common good, there is very little for fear of having to take responsibiity, which could cost an elected or appointed postion. When the elected get to Washington, Washington gets to the elected.

“I hope we shall... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and to bid defiance to the laws of our country.” ~ Thomas Jefferson, letter to George Logan. November 12, 1816
