We recognize these truths:
That human nature is fallible. Because human nature is imperfect, the moral and political errors that can occur in a democracy must be guarded by separation of church and state and a system of checks and balances. Without these guardians, citizens of a democracy have no refuge against its flaws.
The process of voting in itself is not "a democracy"; voting is only a mechanism of democracy. True democracy exists only where all citizens have an equal voice in a continuously and fairly negotiated political system.
“Moral values” is an ambiguous term that can be co-opted by any group's agenda and used to justify either a good or harmful action, or an inclusive or exclusive motive.
We believe these truths:
There is only one true moral measure; that is “To do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Respect for the equal rights and privileges of all people is imperative, regardless of color, belief, culture, or sexual preference.
“Family values” should apply to the value of the family of man, of which we all are a part. No one is less our brother or sister.
A "family" should be a flexible institution defined by mutually caring and supportive relationships. Society should accept and support any family arrangement regardless of its membership; in return this benefits individuals, families, and society.
There is no god-given human dominion over nature - our earth, her oceans, or her creatures. We are a part of nature, with an obligation to protect and better the earth, to leave no trace as we pass through it.
We believe in:
Tolerance – Compassion - Equality - Peace – Honesty
- Integrity
